I’ve always been a dirty girl . . . not THAT kind . . . just the kind that likes to play in the mud and get . . . well . . . dirty.
Oh my gosh, I remember one time when I was playing with my babysitter’s boy. We got it into our heads that it would be fun to throw mud balls at passing cars. Come on now, doesn’t that sound like a hoot? It’s all in good fun until the mark locks up the brakes and comes after you. We weren’t too bright . . . we would sit at the end of the driveway right at the edge of the road launching our dirty projectiles. So we could be clearly seen by our intended targets. So there we were happily packing muck, earthworms and the occasional rock into the semblance of a ball and chucking them at passing cars. Shplat!!! It was that guy in the white car that was the most irate and ratted us out.
Those were the days when spanking was considered an acceptable form of correction and boy-oh-boy did we get it but good! And then when mom picked me up I got it again . . . owie-ouch!
You think we would have learned our lesson . . . but no. The summer passed and winter came. Now, at the end of the driveway where our mud puddle had been was now a slush puddle. What could be more fun than hurling slushballs at passing cars? Apparently, we couldn’t think of anything funner because that’s exactly what we did. We dipped snowballs in slush and launched them at passing cars. Splooosh!!!
We got whoopins again. Yeah I know . . . the definition of insanity and all that stuff.

It’s simple to make your own Homemade Automatic Dishwasher Detergent. It’s natural, inexpensive and effective . . . for pennies a wash load!
All you need is 2 tablespoons each of Borax and Baking Soda. Both products are low-cost. A small 16 oz. box of baking soda costs under $1.00 and will last about 32 loads of dishes. A 76 oz. box of Borax ix about $5.00 and will last 152 loads of dishes. Assume you do one load a day; you will need 12 boxes of baking soda and two boxes of Borax. Total for the year to wash dishes, if you do a load a day, is about $22.00.
Compare that to commercial dish detergent. A box of a name brand dishwasher detergent is about $5 for a large box, which lasts about a month. You will end up paying about 60.00 a year.
Baking soda has all kinds of uses. Among other things it’s a great cleaner and deodorizer. It is a non-toxic, naturally occurring material that’s present in most organic life forms. If you really get into using baking soda for cleaning, buy it in bulk because it doesn’t spoil.
Borax is a natural mineral that cleans, disinfects and deodorizes. It is mildly toxic if consumed and can be irritating to the skin if directly applied.
2 tbs. baking soda
2 tbs. Borax
Put mixture into washer’s detergent holder as you would normally with any detergent.
Give it a try. It works really great. I very was surprised at how well it worked!
