Firewater Friday - Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.

When hubby and I were on vacation we visited one of our favorite pubs.  The Red Parka has the best steak and ribs, the staff is friendly and we always enjoy our visit.  This time when we were there I made an awesome discovery . . .  Cold River Vodka and Gin. I’m not a vodka aficionado but I can appreciate the good stuff when I taste it.  I can, however, fully appreciate a good gin.  I like Boodles and Bombay Sapphire . . . but Cold River gin may be the bestest, smoothest tasting gin I’ve ever had.

Cold River is a distillery located in Freeport Maine . . . in the heart of Maine’s potato country.  It was started by two brothers who wanted to take advantage of Maine potatoes and the fresh, clean water of the Cold River.  They are the only distillery in the country that oversees the entire production process – from planting potato seed to bottling.

The Red Parka was doing a promotion with Cold River so I tried all the drinks on the list and added one of my own favorites.  I started on the bottom and worked my way up.

I started out with a classic dry martini  . . . made with Cold River gin, it was smooth, delicious and entirely dangerous.  It went down so easily, I could have drank them until I fell off my barstool.  I stopped myself at one but damn it was good!

The second drink was the Blueberry Tart.  It's a simple concoction of Cold River blueberry vodka and lemonade garnished with blueberries and mint.  It was light and refreshing . . . again, very dangerous.

From there I moved onto The Rocky Cosmo.  Made with Cold River Vodka, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice, Cointreau, bitters and club soda.  It was quite nice.

I finished with one of my favorite cocktails . . . gin and tonic made with Cold River gin.  Yummy!  I had more than one of those . . . so good!

On the way home we stopped at a New Hampshire liquor store and picked up one of each of their flavors.  It's a bit on the pricey side but the quality makes it well worth the few extra dollars.   Two thumbs up!
